Round Plush Spheal

By Janet Carrillo "damn it Janet, let's crochet!"
Because its body is poorly shaped for swimming and can only walk slowly, it moves primarily by rolling across ice floes.

PATTERN NOTES - must read...
Numbers in ( ) at the end of each round/row indicate the total number of stitches.
Always use stitch markers to mark your rounds.
There's no need to sl st and/or ch when going to the next round unless stated to do so.
Always do the 1st stitch where you slip stitch from the previous round.
The chain, in the beginning, does NOT count as one stitch unless stated otherwise.
You slip stitch on the first sc, not on top of the chain 1.
When happy or cheerful, such as when eating in a group, this pokémon will clap its fins.

ASSEMBLE
I recommend pinning the pieces in place before sewing them to make sure you have them in the position you like best before sewing. (Most people like to use the yarn at the end of the finished pieces to sew them in place, but I personally like to use matching thread).
TIP...For anything that I’m going to be using felt, I like to first sketch it out on a white paper and make a stencil of what I need. Then cut it out. Then tape the stencil to the felt and cut it out.
TUMMY SPOT...place it between round 10 and 18.
MOUTH...place it on round 10. It will be overlapping the tummy spot by a bit.
EARS...place them diagonally from round 4 to 6; approx. 1" apart from round 4.
SIDE FINS...place them on the bottom part of the tummy spot; the flat side of the fins should be facing outwards.
BACK FIN...we will be shaping it by doing the following steps:
1. Using black thread, yarn or embroidery floss, insert the needle on the right side in round 6.
2. Go over the tail and pass it through round 6.
Repeat process 1 and 2 on the left side; leaving 3 stitches apart.
Now, place the back fin on round 15 of the head/body. Sew only the 2 flat rows that we created after round 7.
THE SPOTS on the side of the BODY...using white felt make 4 circles and 2 slightly smaller circles. With a sharpie, you will want to outline each one of them. Try to make the outline as thin as possible. Place them on the side of the head/body like in the picture below.
FANGS...using white felt, make 2 small triangles. Glue them underneath the mouth like in the picture below.
EYES...using black felt make 2 circles. With white felt, make 2 slightly smaller circles than the black ones. Place the black circles between round 7 and 8; approx 0.75" apart. The tiny white circles go on top of the black circles.
NOSTRILS...using black thread or embroidery floss, make 2 diagonal lines in round 9.

  1. The counts in parentheses for the tummy spot seems to be off beginning with row 3.
